It was Bailey Ober’s night.

What a night at the ballpark! Bailey Ober turned in a masterpiece that will be talked about for years. With an 88 MPH fastball that somehow looked unhittable, Ober delivered an 89-pitch complete game shutout—a rare "Maddux" in baseball terms (a complete game shutout with fewer than 100 pitches). He leaned heavily on his changeup and fastball, racking up 4 strikeouts and an impressive 43% whiff rate on that changeup alone.

The only hits Ober allowed were singles to Jakob Marsee in the 2nd inning and Kyle Stowers in the 4th. After that Stowers single, Ober locked in and retired the final 16 batters in a row. It was a masterclass in efficiency and control. For context, the last Twin to throw a Maddux was Ervin Santana back in 2017, and the last to do it with fewer than 90 pitches? That was Bill Krueger in 1992.

On the other side, Marlins starter Eury Perez was dealing too, carrying a no-hitter into the 6th inning. But the Twins broke through in style. After a walk to Byron Buxton, Trevor Larnach singled, moving Buxton to third. Then came the play of the game: with Ryan Jeffers at the plate, Larnach broke for second. The Marlins catcher took the bait and threw down, allowing Buxton to steal home and Larnach to swipe second. It was a heads-up, aggressive play that changed the momentum entirely. Jeffers then capped the rally by launching a towering home run to the second deck in left field, making it 3-0. Sometimes, the long ball is just more straightforward.

The win gives the Twins their first three-game winning streak since mid-April and improves their record to 19-23. Next up, Simeon Woods Richardson takes the mound against Minnesota native and former Golden Gopher Max Meyer. Should be a fun one.
