The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team is on an absolute tear, and sophomore Paige Pelletier is leading the charge. Pelletier delivered a monster performance on Tuesday, driving in six runs on two hits to power the Saints to their seventh consecutive victory—a commanding 17-2 win over Hillsboro-Deering in Division III action.
Now sitting at 9-2 on the season, St. Thomas Aquinas wasted no time putting this game out of reach. The contest was called after five innings thanks to the 10-run mercy rule, but not before the Saints put on an offensive clinic. Sophomore Hailey Anzmann was equally dominant in the circle, striking out eight while allowing just two unearned runs to earn the win. At the plate, Anzmann and freshman Mollie Gaynor each collected three hits, drove in a run, and crossed the plate three times.
The fireworks really started in the second inning, when sophomore Mattie Williams launched her first career home run—a grand slam that fueled a 10-run outburst. Olivia Semprini added three hits and two runs scored, while Libby Barbour chipped in with two hits, an RBI, and two runs of her own. It was a complete team effort that has the Saints looking like serious contenders.
Elsewhere on the diamond, Newmarket's Brielle Duffy showed some pop of her own, homering and driving in three runs in a Division IV loss. Anika Benson added a hit and a run scored for the Mules, while Paige Sweitzer and Julianna Cote each walked and scored.
Over in Maine, Marshwood's Sam Gennaro collected two hits and an RBI in a Class A South loss, with Gavin Villineau scoring the Hawks' only run in the seventh inning.
On the baseball side, Portsmouth Christian's offense came alive in a Division IV win, powered by Grady Howe and Zech Beal, who each drove in three runs. Andrew Earwood added two RBIs of his own. Howe also starred on the mound, striking out nine and allowing just one run over four innings to earn the win. Brayden Leland was a force at the plate, tallying three hits, three runs scored, and an RBI.
In boys lacrosse, St. Thomas Aquinas showed incredible resilience, rallying from a 4-0 first-quarter deficit to win their sixth straight game, 7-4 over Division I Windham. Grady Estes led the way with two goals and two assists, while Luke Daly contributed a goal and two assists. Owen Clark and Ryan Resch each had a goal and an assist, and Colby Tasker, Mike Flood, and Cam Aceto all found the back of the net. Goalie Jake More was outstanding with 19 saves, and Rhys Sullivan dominated at the faceoff X, winning 9 of 13 draws.
Marshwood's boys lacrosse team also had a strong showing, with Liam Haggerty scoring a team-high three goals to lead the Hawks past Class A Cheverus. Hayden Demeroto was all over the stat sheet with two goals and three assists, while Drake Anderson added two goals. Rogan Boisvert (goal, two assists), Robert Williams, Asher Watts, and Chad Anderson all contributed to the scoring as Marshwood improved to 6-1.
In girls lacrosse, Traip Academy's Keira Durgin scored three goals to lead her team to a win over Class B Westbrook. Sam Latchaw and Shea Johnson each added two goals, while Maddy Rohan and Lucy Gingras chipped in with one apiece.
