If there is a word that has been bandied around more often than any other by the Las Vegas Aces early this season, it has been trust.

Trust—it's the word on everyone's lips around the Las Vegas Aces early this season. And for good reason.

After a tough season-opening loss to the Phoenix Mercury, superstar A'ja Wilson made it clear: the Aces needed to rebuild trust in one another. Head coach Becky Hammon echoed that sentiment following games against both the Mercury and the Los Angeles Sparks. While flashes of that trust appeared during exhibition play and the first two regular-season outings, it hadn't been sustained across a full 40 minutes—until now.

A grueling back-to-back schedule followed by a long road trip could have spelled trouble. But Hammon saw it differently. "I kind of like early road trips at this point," she said. "You get in that foxhole early with each other. No distractions. Lots of times at home, you have family members and whatnot. It's nice because it's just us."

That foxhole mentality paid off Wednesday against the Connecticut Sun, when trust took center stage—out of necessity.

Wilson found herself in early foul trouble, logging just nine minutes in the first half after picking up three personal fouls. In past seasons, when the four-time MVP missed time due to injury, the Aces' frontcourt often struggled to hold the paint. But this time, there was no kiss of death.

Instead, Wilson got a courtside seat to a spirited effort from her teammates. The bench poured in 27 points, fueling multiple scoring runs that kept the Sun at arm's length. By the time Wilson returned to notch her typical double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds), it was simply the finishing touch on a banner day for the entire roster—from players one through ten.

"We have a resilient group," Wilson said. "A group willing to work regardless of the score. You can build on that."

For a team built on star power, this was a reminder that championships are won with depth, grit, and above all—trust.
