In a stunning display of speed and stamina, True Love surged to victory in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, handing legendary Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien his eighth win in the prestigious fillies' Classic. It was a race that had everything—drama, strategy, and a powerhouse finish that left the crowd in awe.

Ridden by the ever-cool Wayne Lordan, the 5-1 shot made her move in the final furlong of the one-mile test, pulling away from a 19-strong field with authority. Lordan—who now has three Guineas wins to his name, following earlier victories on Winter (2017) and Hermosa (2019)—navigated brilliantly from the nearside rails before launching his challenge down the centre of the track. The result? A commanding one-and-three-quarter-length victory over 16-1 outsider Evolutionist, with Venetian Lace finishing third at 33-1.

Notably, the 9-5 pre-race favorite Precise—another O'Brien runner—could only manage a disappointing seventh, a reminder that even the most hyped contenders can falter on the big stage.

"Stepping up to the mile was a little bit of a question mark for her because she is a filly with loads of pace," Lordan said in a post-race interview with ITV Sport. "But I got into a nice position and she settled really well—then it was just a matter of time before letting her move forward. She's got everything about her. She is progressing all the time."

Owner and breeder Michael Tabor admitted that even O'Brien had doubts about True Love's stamina. "This morning, speaking to him, he wasn't overconfident to say the least, either about True Love or Precise," Tabor confessed. "We thought there was a doubt about True Love getting the trip... but year in, year out, he produces the goods."

True Love, who also won the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes as a two-year-old at Newmarket, proved she's more than just speed—she's a Classic winner with a bright future. For O'Brien, this victory adds another chapter to a storied career. As he put it simply: "You could see she was always traveling well. She's a very special filly."

Whether you're a racing fan or someone who simply appreciates excellence in sport, this was a race to remember—and a reminder that in horse racing, as in life, sometimes the best bets are the ones that surprise you.
