Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has hit another bump in his road to recovery. The slugger, who has been sidelined since last May with a torn patellar tendon, is now dealing with a rib injury that has complicated his return to the diamond.
Interim manager Chad Tracy provided an update on Casas Tuesday night before Boston’s 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. According to Tracy, the 24-year-old is scheduled to meet with a doctor later this week for a reevaluation. "We’ll go from there," Tracy said, keeping the team's options open depending on the results.
Casas entered spring training focused on rehabbing his knee, which appeared to be strengthening. He started the 2025 season on the 10-day injured list, but as his knee improved, a new issue emerged. In April, he began feeling pain on his left side and was forced to stop swinging a bat. Subsequent tests revealed an abdominal strain, leading the Red Sox to place him on the 60-day injured list last month.
The injuries have limited Casas to just 92 games since the start of the 2024 season—a frustrating stretch for a player who showed so much promise as a rookie. For Red Sox fans, this latest update is a reminder of the patience required as the team navigates a season full of roster changes and injury setbacks.
For now, Casas continues his rehab in Fort Myers, waiting for the green light. And as the Red Sox look to stay competitive in a tough division, every update on their young first baseman is a step—however small—toward his eventual return.
