May 20 – First summer session starts – So far the Wolfpack has 8 players committed, six of them ranked 4-star by 247 (including Wilkins coming out of high school), and six of them were starters last season.
Mikey Wilkins – Any ambiguity has passed, Mikey did not submit his name to the transfer portal. He took a redshirt last season and has gotten himself in great shape. The coaches he worked with last year say we are going to be very impressed by him this season.
NC State commits Christian Hammond (#57) and Preston Edmead (#80) made ESPN’s top 100 transfers, with Kyle Evans falling just outside in their ‘Next In Line’ group.
Paul McNeil – Still a mystery. We have heard that the list of schools showing interest continues to grow as do the rumored dollars involved, but we haven’t seen published reports of him taking official visits or leaning in any particular direction – other than NC State. He is not on the list of early entrants for the NBA draft. NC State’s problem is, unless P2 stays with the Pack, there are very few high-end players remaining in the portal.
Trevon Carter-Givens – (committed freshman) – No information whatsoever. It is assumed that he will ask out of his committment to the previous staff and go elsewhere.
The Pack picked up another commit from the transfer portal, combo guard Darius Adams, transferring after one season at Maryland. Coming out of high school Darius was a top 25 McDonald’s All-American recruit and had taken official visits to both NC State and Tennessee. Despite his high school resume, Darius is likely slotted in as a backup guard initially. He played both on and off the ball at Maryland, so has the potential to backup the point as well as the shooting guard.
Points: 20 points (versus Alabama), 20 games scoring in double figures
Rebounds: 7 rebounds (2x), 14 games with 4+ rebounds
Darius grew up in Manchester NJ and transferred to La Lumiere Academy in Indiana during his junior and senior seasons. As a junior he averaged 15.1 ppg, as a senior 16.7 ppg.
He was ranked 5-star by 247 and Rivals coming out of La Lumiere.
’25-’26: Darius was new coach Buzz Williams’ first commit at Maryland and was the 4th highest ranked recruit in Maryland history. He started 28 of 33 games (2nd most starts on the team), averaging 25.6 minutes per game. He had surgery on his right hand during the summer of 2025 and was sidelined for more than a month before the season.
’24-’25: Darius was a highly sought after recruit coming out of high school, he was a McDonald’s All American and ranked in the top 25. He was recruited by Coach Gainey while at Tennessee, as well as UConn, Texas, NC State, Louisville, Michigan State and Maryland. He initially signed with UConn, decommitted, and went to Maryland for his freshman season.
Adams is a skilled and smooth guard with good positional size at 6-foot-5 and an instinctive feel for the game. He’s a multi-dimensional scoring threat who can make threes and mid-range pull-ups in a variety of different ways. …
Adams can also make reads with the ball, so he can come off screens and get to his mid-range game if that’s how the defense is playing him. Combine that with his reliability as a passer and he has the type of floor game that should fit into offensive structure nicely at the next level. …
Overall, Adams is a skilled, smooth, smart, has good size, and his best basketball still in front of him as he continues to make strides physically.
