It was a weekend to remember for Greater Lansing track and field teams, with standout performances and regional titles earned across the board. Leading the charge, the Grand Ledge girls' squad captured a commanding regional championship, while the Williamston boys delivered a strong runner-up finish on their home track.
Katie Blue was the undeniable star for Grand Ledge, posting a triple individual win. She soared to victory in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-0, then dominated the hurdles, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 15.40 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 45.39. Her efforts helped the Comets rack up 93 points, finishing 10 points ahead of runner-up Okemos. DeWitt and East Lansing tied for third with 75 points each.
Okemos' Natalia Hawks also shined with a triple win of her own, claiming the 100-meter dash (12.48), the 200-meter dash (25.73), and the long jump (16-10.5). East Lansing showcased relay prowess, winning the 400, 800, and 1,600-meter relays.
In another regional, Charlotte finished as runner-up with 85.5 points, trailing champion Hastings (98 points). The Orioles saw strong second-place finishes from Kendall Dorey (long jump), Baylee Moore (300 hurdles), Avery Silvas (800), and Sunny Sparks (shot put).
Haslett's Christina Dixon was a double winner, taking the 200 and 400 meters, and also contributed to winning 800 and 1,600 relay teams. Meanwhile, Portland St. Patrick's Katrina Chen won the discus, and Amelia Lansdell was runner-up in the 100 meters, helping their team secure second place with 111 points. St. Patrick also earned runner-up spots in the 400, 800, and 3,200 relays.
On the boys' side, Grand Ledge's Jackson Shaltry was a force in the throwing events, winning both the discus and shot put to lead the Comets to a Division 1 regional title with 118 points, well ahead of runner-up Brighton (73.5). Kingston Oakes (400 meters) and Anthony Baker (long jump) added individual wins for Grand Ledge.
DeWitt had three individual champions: Channing Ridley (100 meters), Caedin Martin-Seymour (200 meters), and Casey Flannery (high jump). Williamston's Steven Bush was a double individual winner and part of two first-place relays, helping the Hornets finish as regional runner-up with a score of 106.83 on their home turf.
