Faith Torrez's journey to the top of the NCAA gymnastics world is a story of resilience that culminated in a stunning victory. Battling through an injury-plagued season, the Oklahoma Sooners senior shocked the Fort Worth crowd—and herself—by capturing the coveted all-around national title.
Torrez, who placed third in the all-around last year, put together a near-perfect series of routines. She posted a 9.9375 on vault and a trio of 9.9500 scores on the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise, finishing with a dominant total of 39.7875. "If you would have asked me 2 1/2 weeks ago, I had no intention of doing the all-around this meet," Torrez admitted on the ESPN broadcast. "But it was great. It kinda just happened the way it happened. And it happened perfectly."
In another highlight of the championships, Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles showcased her signature power and artistry to win the floor exercise crown with a score of 9.9750. The event finals saw other standout performances, with Oklahoma's Keira Wells winning the vault title and Florida's Riley McCusker taking the uneven bars.
With the individual titles decided, the focus now shifts to the team competition. Oklahoma, the reigning powerhouse with six of the last nine national titles, advanced to the national championship alongside Minnesota, UCLA, and Arkansas. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown this Saturday at Dickies Arena, where these elite athletes will compete for collegiate gymnastics' ultimate prize.
