Blue Jays slugger George Springer has avoided another serious injury after an early exit from a game against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday

The Toronto Blue Jays managed to pull off an impressive 11-4 comeback victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday at Target Field, securing at least a series split in their four-game set. But while the win was a bright spot, it came with a heart-stopping moment that had fans holding their breath.

Outfielder and designated hitter George Springer, who just returned from the 10-day injured list on April 29 after suffering a fractured left big toe, was leading off and serving as DH against the Twins. In his second at-bat of the game, the 36-year-old slugger was hit by a pitch—right on that same injured toe. He immediately exited the game, leaving the Blue Jays and their supporters fearing the worst.

Springer has been playing through the existing fracture, so there was real concern that the pitch could have aggravated the injury or caused a new break. But fortunately, the news turned out to be much better than anticipated. According to MLB.com reporter Keegan Matheson, Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Springer is "doing OK" and that there is "no new fracture."

"He'll be sore as hell," Schneider added, "and this surely doesn't help his original fracture, which he's been playing through, but the #BlueJays avoided worse news."

It's a huge sigh of relief for Toronto, as Springer has been one of their most consistent bats since joining the team in 2021. Now in his 13th major league season and sixth with the Blue Jays, the 2017 World Series MVP boasts an impressive resume that includes three All-Star selections (2017-2019) and two Silver Slugger awards (2017, 2019). His experience and leadership are invaluable, especially as the Blue Jays look to build momentum in a tight division race.

For now, Toronto can celebrate both the win and the fact that their star slugger dodged a major bullet. Fans will be watching closely to see how Springer recovers, but for today, the news is as good as it gets.
