The Indy Ignite had a record-setting season en route to a regular-season title. But they fell a few points short of playing for $1 million.

The top-seeded Indy Ignite entered the MLV championship semifinal on a historic high, boasting a record-setting 23-5 regular season and a target on their backs as the team to beat. But in a dramatic five-set thriller, the Omaha Supernovas flipped the script, avenging their 2025 semifinal loss to the Ignite with a gritty 3-2 upset win (25-22, 21-25, 27-29, 25-20, 15-13) at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.

For the Ignite, it was a heartbreaking end to what had been a dream season. They came within striking distance of playing for the $1 million championship prize, but the Supernovas proved relentless in the clutch. The loss snapped Indy's momentum in five-set matches, where they had gone 3-1 during the regular season—their only previous defeat coming against Omaha back on March 14.

Anna DeBeer and Azhani Tealer powered the Ignite offense with 16 kills each, with Tealer adding a double-double thanks to 14 digs and a .244 hitting percentage. Lydia Martyn chipped in 12 kills at an efficient .320 clip along with six blocks, while setter Mia Tuaniga orchestrated the attack with 59 assists and 12 digs. But the defensive star of the night was libero Elena Scott, who set an MLV championship record with 27 digs—a performance that kept the Ignite alive through multiple set points.

Despite the loss, the Ignite's season was one for the books. They captured the regular-season title with a dominant 23-5 record, setting a new standard for excellence in the league. Now, as they look ahead to next season, they'll carry the sting of this near-miss—and the hunger to go one step further. For fans of the game, this semifinal was a reminder that in volleyball, as in sport, the margin between glory and heartbreak is often just a few points.
