The Alabama Crimson Tide's pursuit of a key frontcourt piece in the transfer portal has hit a snag. Former Tennessee forward Cade Phillips, a top target for Nate Oats' program, has announced his commitment to play for the Texas A&M Aggies in the 2026-27 season.
Phillips, a 6-foot-9, 221-pound forward, recently visited Tuscaloosa for Alabama's "A-Day" festivities, making his decision to head to College Station a notable miss for the Tide. His athleticism and size would have been a valuable asset, especially following the departure of big man Aiden Sherrell from the roster.
While his last season at Tennessee was shortened by injury—averaging 3.8 points and four rebounds over 10 games—Phillips showed efficient scoring touch, shooting an impressive 65.4% from the field. He was ranked as a top-250 overall player in the transfer portal, highlighting his potential as a developmental piece with upside.
Despite this setback, Alabama's transfer portal activity remains robust. The Tide have already secured commitments from forwards Brandon Garrison and, as of Wednesday night, Jamarion Davis-Fleming, ensuring the frontcourt rotation will have new faces ready to compete in the tough SEC landscape.
