Michigan Football is making serious waves in Texas, and the 2028 recruiting class is taking notice. One of the Lone Star State's brightest defensive stars, four-star linebacker Brayden Bonik, recently made the trip to Ann Arbor for a spring visit—and he left thoroughly impressed.
Bonik, ranked as the No. 9 overall linebacker in the 2028 class, touched down in late March, just weeks after receiving his offer from the Wolverines. The visit gave him an up-close look at what makes Michigan's program tick.
"It was a great experience seeing the great culture that Michigan Football has been built on," Bonik shared.
During his time inside Schembechler Hall, Bonik watched practice unfold and paid close attention to how linebackers coach Alex Whittingham runs the room. The intensity on defense left a strong impression.
"I could see myself right in the mix with their great intensity on the defense," Bonik said. "I like they are very well coached and are very savvy when it comes to the game."
Whittingham, who extended the offer to Bonik following the February dead period, has already built a solid connection with the young linebacker. That relationship is clearly growing.
"I like him a lot and the knowledge he brings to the game," Bonik added. "Think he will develop me very well and he believes that I will be a great Wolverine."
Bonik is also eager to build a similar bond with head coach Kyle Whittingham on future visits. Even from a distance, the coach's track record speaks volumes.
"Respect what he's done coaching and the great things he's done over the years," Bonik noted.
Like many sophomore standouts who recently toured Ann Arbor, Bonik is already planning a return trip—this time for a game-day experience under the lights at Michigan Stadium.
"I really like everything and it is really a prestigious place that will get you to the next level," Bonik said. "I want to come for a game to see what it really feels like to be in The Big House."
On the field, Bonik is a proven playmaker, racking up over 60 tackles last season for his high school. Michigan is firmly in the mix for his commitment, competing with a strong list of suitors including SMU, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, and Penn State. For fans looking to gear up like the next generation of Wolverines, this is a name to watch closely.
