Browns head coach Todd Monken spent the last three years overseeing the Ravens' offense and part of that role involved the development of wide receiver Zay Flowers.

When Todd Monken sees Browns rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion, he can't help but think back to a familiar face. The connection? A dynamic young pass-catcher who made a name for himself in Baltimore.

Monken, now at the helm in Cleveland, spent the last three seasons as the Ravens' offensive coordinator, where he played a key role in developing Zay Flowers. The 2023 first-round pick didn't just meet expectations—he shattered them. Over three seasons with Monken, Flowers racked up 237 receptions for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning two Pro Bowl nods along the way.

Now, with the Browns investing a first-round pick in Concepcion, Monken sees a spark that feels all too familiar. "There are some traits that are similar to [Flowers]," Monken told reporters, via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com. "But I love when people spoke about KC, it reminded me of Zay in that, in terms of how he practiced, what he brings in every day. And if you're looking for that comparison, that I can compare, I believe he's going to bring that like Zay did."

Of course, Flowers had the luxury of catching passes from Lamar Jackson—a luxury Concepcion won't have in Cleveland, at least not yet. The Browns' quarterback situation remains a question mark heading into the season. But if Concepcion can make a quick adjustment to the NFL game, he could be the steadying force Monken's offense needs, no matter who's under center.

For now, the comparisons are flattering, but the real test begins this fall. And if history is any guide, Monken knows how to get the most out of a promising wideout.
