The Minnesota Timberwolves may have lost Game 3 against the San Antonio Spurs, but the real fireworks happened on the sideline—between head coach Chris Finch and veteran referee Tony Brothers.

Following the 115-108 loss, which saw Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama drop 39 points to take a 2-1 series lead, Finch didn't hold back. He called out Brothers for what he described as "completely unprofessional behavior" during a heated timeout exchange.

The tension boiled over when Finch tried to call a timeout. "I wanted the timeout. I had called it three seconds earlier," Finch explained. "I said, 'I want my three seconds back,' because he clearly heard me. He looked my way, ignored me, and went on with the play. It almost cost us a turnover."

The situation escalated quickly. Players and staff had to physically hold Brothers back, while Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards calmly walked Finch away from the confrontation. When a reporter noted that it's rare to see players hold a referee back from their own coach, Finch cut in: "Pretty unprofessional, huh?"

Finch went on to say that when he approached Brothers to ask where the ball would be inbounded, the official "screamed at me for that." The coach's frustration was palpable, calling it a clear breach of professional conduct on the court.

Edwards, who scored 32 points in the loss, took a more diplomatic approach. "We want to win. Finchy wants to win. Tony Brothers is Tony Brothers. We all love him, so it's all good here," he said, downplaying the incident as part of "competition at the highest level."

While the Timberwolves now face a 2-1 series deficit, this clash between coach and official adds another layer of intensity to an already heated playoff matchup. For fans and players alike, it's a reminder that in the NBA, emotions run high—and sometimes, the biggest battles happen off the ball.
