The Thunder and their fans are in for another night of scoreboard watching. As the Lakers and Rockets face off in Game 6 of their first-round series, Oklahoma City is eagerly awaiting their second-round opponent. The game tips off at 8:30 p.m. on Prime, and the stakes couldn't be higher for both teams.
We caught up with Thunder sideline reporter Paris Lawson to break down what's ahead for the squad and the unique challenges each potential opponent brings. "The Thunder earned this right," Lawson told us, reflecting on the team's dominant first-round performance. After sweeping the Phoenix Suns in four games, Oklahoma City has had time to rest, recover, and hit the film room. "They'll go back, they'll look at the lessons they can learn from that series," Lawson explained. "They are not sitting idly by right now."
The Thunder's regular-season record against both teams bodes well. They went 2-1 against the Rockets and a perfect 4-0 against the Lakers. But Lawson warns that each team presents a different kind of test. "The Rockets, they're a team that has been a challenge for the Thunder just in terms of their defense. It's a really good test of going up against a really strong defense," she said. "Then, you have a Lakers team that's a little more offensively potent."
Either way, Lawson believes the Thunder are ready. The team has gained invaluable experience over the years, learning from every game and growing stronger. And, of course, they've got the loudest fans in the league fueling their run. "All of that energy, it spills over into the game, and the Thunder have utilized all of that," Lawson added. "It's really the wind in their sails in these playoffs."
For those tuning in, the Lakers-Rockets Game 6 will be played in Houston at 8:30 p.m. on Amazon Prime. The Rockets will once again be without Kevin Durant. Depending on tonight's outcome, the Thunder's first second-round game will be either Sunday or next Tuesday. The full series schedule is set for May 3, 5, 9, 11, 13*, 16*, and 18* if necessary.
