Three Vancouver Canucks prospects are gearing up for the final stretch of international competition as they prepare for the 2026 IIHF World Championship. Forwards Linus Karlsson, Liam Öhgren, and Aatu Räty have earned spots in the upcoming Beijer Hockey Games in Sweden, the last stop before rosters are finalized for the tournament beginning May 15.

The news comes after six Canucks organization members participated in the Fortuna Hockey Games, where Sweden, Finland, Czechia, and Switzerland battled for positioning. Now, the focus shifts to Sweden, where the stakes are higher and the competition is fiercer.

For Sweden, two of the three Canucks who took part in the Fortuna Hockey Games—Öhgren and Karlsson—will remain on the roster. Nils Höglander, unfortunately, is out after sustaining an injury in Sweden's first game. Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond has been named as his replacement for the World Championship, ending Höglander's campaign for now.

Öhgren turned heads during the Fortuna Hockey Games with an impressive offensive showing, tallying two goals and two assists in three games. Karlsson also found his rhythm, skating on a line with top prospects Viggo Björck and Ivar Stenberg throughout the competition. For hockey fans, this kind of chemistry-building is exactly what you want to see from young talent heading into a major international stage.

Representing Finland, Aatu Räty will join a star-studded cast for the Beijer Hockey Games. He'll be skating alongside Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, Calgary Flames defenseman Olli Määttä, and Nashville Predators goaltender Justus Annunen. Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teräväinen and Boston Bruins duo Henri Jokiharju and Joonas Korpisalo have already secured their spots on Finland's World Championship roster, setting a high bar for Räty and his teammates.

Two Canucks who won't be participating in this final leg are Filip Hronek and Jiří Patera of Czechia. Hronek was injured during Czechia's games, and Patera did not make the cut for the final training camp. Their absence leaves a gap, but the focus remains on the three players still in contention.

For Canucks fans, this is an exciting glimpse into the future. Watching Öhgren, Karlsson, and Räty battle for roster spots against elite international competition is a testament to the depth of talent in Vancouver's pipeline. Whether they make the final cut or not, this experience is invaluable for their development—and a reminder that the Canucks' future is in good hands.
