Nathan Eovaldi delivered a masterclass on the mound Wednesday afternoon, leading the Texas Rangers to a commanding 3-0 shutout victory over the New York Yankees. It was exactly the kind of performance the team needed after a stretch of uneven outings.

Let's be honest—there was no way Eovaldi was going to let himself be outdueled by a pitcher named Elmer. The veteran right-hander was in complete control from the first pitch, striking out seven batters while walking just one over seven dominant innings. He threw 102 pitches and generated an impressive 20 swinging strikes.

What made Eovaldi's performance so effective was his pitch selection. He largely abandoned his fastball (just 10 times) and sinker (5 times), instead relying on a devastating mix of splitters, cutters, and curveballs. The splitter alone accounted for 12 of those swinging strikes, while the cutter added six more. His ERA now sits at 4.76 for the season, with a more encouraging 4.38 xERA suggesting better results ahead.

Jacob Latz deserves major credit too, coming on for the two-inning save. The bullpen continues to be a strength for this Rangers squad.

This marks the third shutout of the season for Texas and the first time they've blanked a team other than the Mariners—a sign that the pitching staff is finding its groove.

Offensively, the Rangers showed significant improvement in clutch situations. After going just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position the day before, Texas bounced back with a 4-for-8 performance that translated directly into runs.

Josh Jung continues to be the offensive catalyst, delivering a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning to break the scoreless tie and plate the first two runs. Brandon Nimmo set the table with an infield single to load the bases, though he left the game shortly after with a hamstring issue. The good news? Nimmo is considered day-to-day and could be back in the lineup this weekend in Detroit.

Sam Haggerty, who replaced Nimmo, made an immediate impact by singling home the third run in the seventh inning. Ezequiel Duran also contributed, going 2-for-2 with a double and a walk in a rare start against a right-handed pitcher. His season slash line now sits at .288/.354/.424—solid numbers for a player splitting time in left field.

Speaking of the outfield, Duran has been sharing duties with Alejandro Osuna during Wyatt Langford's absence. Langford is expected to be activated this weekend, which will send Osuna back to Triple-A and give Langford the primary left field role. With Josh Smith currently struggling, the timing couldn't be better for the Rangers to get their full complement of weapons back on the field.
