The Boston Bruins are heading back to the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a drastically different roster than the one they had for the 2024 Playoffs.

The Boston Bruins are back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the 2026 edition of the team looks remarkably different from the squad that took the ice just two years ago. While the core leadership of Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak remains, the roster has undergone a significant transformation.

Of the 18 skaters from their last playoff game in May 2024, only seven remain: Pastrnak, McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Mason Lohrei, Pavel Zacha, Morgan Geekie, and Andrew Peeke. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman provides a crucial link to the past, but for many, this postseason will be a brand-new experience in Black and Gold.

That's not to say the team lacks playoff pedigree. Key acquisitions like Nikita Zadorov, Tanner Jeannot, and Elias Lindholm bring extensive postseason resumes. Even returning veteran Sean Kuraly, though not on the 2024 roster, has 57 playoff games under his belt with Boston.

For one player, however, this journey is entirely uncharted territory: Mark Kastelic. Acquired from Ottawa in the summer of 2024 as part of the Linus Ullmark trade, Kastelic was initially seen by some as a secondary piece in the deal. Bruins GM Don Sweeney and his staff saw something more—a potential key contributor for the bottom six.

That vision has paid off spectacularly. In his second season with Boston, Kastelic has shattered career highs across the board: goals, assists, points, shots, ice time, and face-off percentage. By every metric, it's been a breakout year for the hard-working forward.

Sweeney himself highlighted Kastelic's importance at his end-of-season press conference, praising his recent play and noting the impact of his line. The GM specifically pointed to a crucial March 29th comeback win against Columbus, where the Bruins erased a 3-0 deficit to solidify their playoff position. In that game, it was Tanner Jeannot who sparked the rally, underscoring how these new faces are already writing their own playoff-bound story in Boston.
