Ayanna Patterson battled injuries during her four seasons at Connecticut. But she leaves UConn women's basketball with gratitude and having left an impression.

Ayanna Patterson, the former Indiana Miss Basketball and a key piece of UConn's 2025 national championship team, is looking for a new home. The Fort Wayne native and Homestead graduate has entered the NCAA transfer portal after four seasons with the Huskies, as reported by On3.

Patterson's journey in Storrs was defined as much by resilience as by talent. A highly-touted five-star recruit who set seven school records in high school, her college career was repeatedly interrupted by significant injuries. After appearing in 27 games as a freshman, she underwent two separate season-ending surgeries—first on her knee in 2023 and then on her shoulder in 2024—that limited her to just two full seasons of play.

Despite the challenges, Patterson made her mark, contributing to a championship culture and earning her degree. She returned healthy for the 2025-26 season, appearing in 28 games. In her 55 total appearances for UConn, the 6-foot-2 forward tallied 99 points, 96 rebounds, and nine blocks, showcasing the athleticism that made her a Naismith All-American.

Her departure is filled with gratitude for the program that supported her through every setback. "This program has meant the world to me these last four years," Patterson told CT Insider following UConn's Final Four loss. "They've been through every obstacle with me... I just thank them."

With two years of eligibility remaining and a clean bill of health, Patterson's entry into the portal is a major opportunity for another program. A former top-tier recruit with championship experience and a proven ability to overcome adversity, she is poised to make a significant impact wherever she lands next.
