The 2026 NFL Draft has come and gone, reshaping rosters across the league—and for fantasy football managers, the fallout is just beginning. While much of the attention goes to the incoming rookies, savvy players know the real value lies in watching which veterans escaped the draft without seeing their role threatened. Yahoo Fantasy analyst Joel Smyth breaks down the biggest winners from draft weekend, starting with a backfield that got a vote of confidence.
Perhaps no team sent a clearer message than the Jacksonville Jaguars. Armed with 10 draft picks, the Jags used exactly zero of them on running backs. That’s a huge win for Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby, who now head into the season without a rookie breathing down their necks. The team did sign Chris Rodriguez Jr. in free agency, but the backfield hierarchy remains intact. Jacksonville’s offense, orchestrated by Liam Coen, has been a goldmine for fantasy running backs. In 2024, Coen’s Buccaneers led the league in running back scoring, and the 2025 Jaguars followed suit with heavy goal-line and screen usage. Etienne controlled the receiving work last season, while Bigsby gradually took over short-yardage duties. With no rookie added—especially one who could challenge Etienne’s pass-catching role—both backs see their fantasy stock rise.
The draft strategy also reflected the team’s faith in their current room. Despite pre-draft chatter that Jacksonville might use a Day 2 pick—or even trade up—for a running back, they instead spent their first selection (Round 2) on blocking tight end Nate Boerkircher. That’s a surprising move for a team that ran the fifth-most three-receiver sets in 2025, but it shows they believe in their existing backfield to handle the load. For fantasy managers, that’s music to the ears: fewer mouths to feed means more touches for the guys already on the roster.
