Emma Raducanu is not enduring the best season of her career, and ironically, neither are Tottenham Hotspur, the football team she supports.
There are actually plenty of similarities to be drawn between this tennis superstar and the English football giant, both of whom continue to underperform far below the expectations many have of them.
However, for the Lilywhites, this particular campaign could prove to be disastrous, with relegation from the Premier League a very serious threat.
Raducanu will be wishing she had not chosen so recklessly when selecting a team to support four years ago.
Speaking to The Telegraph back in 2022, just a year after Euro’s fever had hit England as they reached the finals of the event, Raducanu admitted that this tournament played a huge role in the selection of her team.
The Brit admitted: “My whole team basically are big Spurs fans and I feel like they’re egging me on.
“They’re desperately trying to get me behind them. I don’t necessarily follow football so much, but I feel like now because of them I’m feeling some sort of connection.
“I loved following the Euros last year and watching Harry Kane, who’s obviously the England captain, and [Heung-min] Son, I’m a big fan of him as well. So yeah, I like to dabble.”
Although likely not all that invested in Spurs, Raducanu will still not be enjoying seeing their struggles this season.
In fact, she will almost definitely regret the decision to align herself with the North London club, who are very much at risk of being relegated from the Premier League this season.
Having conceded late in their most recent match to Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst Nottingham Forest won, they are now five points away from those relegation rivals.
And, should West Ham United win at Crystal Palace tonight, Spurs will be four points adrift of safety with just five matches left.
