With the 2026 NFL Draft weekend upon us, teams will introduce their latest rookie class to the league in hopes of having them become part of the next Super Bowl puzzle. The draft also means finalizing past trades that included future draft picks. That includes a deal made earlier this offseason that sent quarterback Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders back to the New York Jets.
While Smith came off three successful seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and signed a two-year, $75 million extension with the Raiders upon the trade, the move turned out to be a bust for Vegas. Smith saw a massive step back, throwing for just over 3,000 yards and 19 touchdowns against 17 interceptions, the most he’s had in a single season since his rookie year in 2013.
The Jets traded pick 208 and 134 to move up to 122 and take Arizona running back Micke Washington Jr.
With pick 228, the Jets selected Kansas State safety VJ Payne.
