The Las Vegas Aces may have pulled off the quietest blockbuster move of the WNBA offseason—and it's already paying dividends. While the basketball world was fixated on blockbuster trades and free agency frenzy, the Aces quietly secured one of the most prolific scorers in women's basketball: Chennedy Carter.

At training camp last month, Aces superstar A'ja Wilson couldn't hide her excitement about the addition. "I was an opponent against her when she fried us, so it's pretty cool to have her in the locker room now," Wilson said with a grin. "She won't be frying us. She's actually gonna be frying other people with our jersey on, which I'm very appreciative of."

In their opening night loss to the Phoenix Mercury, Carter showed flashes of her potential, posting 10 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals on efficient 5-of-8 shooting. But Sunday night against the Los Angeles Sparks? That's when the league got a full taste of what's to come.

In just 20 minutes off the bench, Carter exploded for a team-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, adding 2 steals in a dominant 105-78 victory. She attacked the rim with purpose, finished through contact, and showed the kind of versatility that makes defenders nervous. It was a performance that screamed "offseason steal of the year."

For context, Carter was nothing short of electric in 2024, averaging 17.5 points on 48.7% shooting with the Chicago Sky. Yet, despite that career year, she didn't sign with any WNBA team in 2025—a head-scratcher that left many fans wondering what went wrong. The details remain unclear, but the defending champions saw an opportunity and pounced.

Now wearing an Aces jersey, Carter is embracing her new role with humility and gratitude. "We have Olympians on our team. We have some of the greatest players and scorers in the world," she said after a preseason game. "Being able to play with them is honestly an honor. They've embraced me, made me feel comfortable, and they're helping me grow and elevate. I trust that they'll help me take my game to the next level, and I'm going to help them grow as well. I'm really happy here."

Of course, Carter wasn't the only star shining in Sunday's blowout. Jackie Young stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds, while the Aces' championship core continues to look as dangerous as ever. But with Carter providing a scoring punch off the bench, Las Vegas just got deeper—and scarier. For a team already stacked with talent, that's a scary thought for the rest of the league.
