Neither Adoree’ Jackson nor Kelee Ringo inspired much confidence as the Eagles’ third cornerback to start the year. General manager Howie Roseman – perhaps the most active trader in the league – was wiling to roll the dice on Alexander despite his significant injury history, which seemed to affect his availability in Baltimore at the start of the year.
The late Day 3 pick swap made this a low-risk move, especially considering Roseman’s ability to add picks during the draft.
Eagles get: cornerback Jaire Alexander, 2027 seventh-round pick
Well, he didn’t, exactly. Alexander did not appear in a single game as an Eagle and instead took time away from football to focus on his health. The team placed him on the reserve/retired list, and his NFL future is murky at best.
The low price of the deal represented the risk of acquiring Alexander, though Philadelphia may not have been expecting this outcome. They received $500,000 from the Ravens and $389,000 from Alexander as the result of his decision, along with a cap credit.
The Ravens picked a punter, Ryan Eckley, out of Michigan State.
