Jeremy Doku is making a compelling case to be considered among the world's elite wingers—and he's doing it just in time to keep Manchester City's title hopes alive.
The 23-year-old Belgian star has been on a remarkable hot streak, scoring in three consecutive appearances for the first time in his City career. His latest gem came in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Brentford, where he cut inside and curled a delightful finish past the keeper, mirroring the late equalizer he produced against Everton just days earlier.
Doku now has four goals in his past three games, including a double against Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final. More impressively, he's racked up seven goal involvements (five goals, two assists) in his last six matches—matching his total from the previous 24 games combined.
"If you want to become a better player, you have to win games for yourself," manager Pep Guardiola said. "It's not enough to make good crosses. You have to win games and score goals. The big players always have that mentality."
Doku himself acknowledged the shift, telling BBC Match of the Day: "I'm an instinct player. Today it's working out. I've always played with instinct, but now the goals are coming."
His transformation couldn't come at a better time. With City now just two points behind league leaders Arsenal, Doku's newfound scoring touch is proving decisive. He tormented Brentford full-back Michael Kayode all afternoon, and MOTD pundit Ashley Williams called it "the best we have seen of Jeremy Doku."
For a player who admitted last month that he needed to add more goals to his game to be considered among the world's best, these performances suggest he's well on his way—and keeping City's title charge firmly on track.
