Bayern Munich fans can breathe a sigh of relief: the veteran goalkeeper duo is staying put. The club officially announced contract extensions for both Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich on Friday, sending a wave of excitement through the Allianz Arena faithful.
The timing was particularly sweet, coming just hours after board member Max Eberl played coy about the negotiations. But all is forgiven now, especially with Ulreich sounding genuinely pumped for the 2026/27 season.
"I'm really delighted: I feel great, I'm still really keen on football – and I've simply grown to love FC Bayern," Ulreich told the club's official site. "We've got a fantastic squad with a brilliant coaching team, and it's great fun every day, not least within our goalkeeping team. It's wonderful to see how everything keeps developing, and I'm sure we'll be in with a chance of achieving everything again next season."
Some might question the value of a third-string goalkeeper, but Ulreich has proven his worth time and again. When called upon, he's delivered solid performances between the posts. More importantly, he's the glue in the goalkeeping room—a trusted mentor and training partner for both Neuer and rising star Jonas Urbig. The trio's chemistry is no accident; they push each other daily, making the entire squad stronger.
Once Neuer committed to another season, keeping Ulreich on board was always the logical move. Now, with the band back together, Bayern's goalkeeping unit looks set for another title push.
