The Bob Chesney era at UCLA is off to a roaring start—and he hasn't even coached a game yet. On Friday, the Bruins landed two more four-star recruits for the Class of 2027, sending a clear message that UCLA football is back on the recruiting map.

Offensive lineman Jackson Roper and cornerback Jerry Outhouse both committed to UCLA, pushing the Bruins' 2027 class to No. 10 in the nation according to 247 Sports. That's a jaw-dropping turnaround for a program that had signed just three four-star recruits total over its previous two recruiting classes. Now, in just one cycle under Chesney, UCLA has already secured six four-star commitments.

Roper, a massive 6'5", 315-pound interior offensive lineman from Colorado, is ranked as the No. 9 interior lineman in the country and the top player from his state. He chose UCLA over heavy hitters like Michigan, Texas A&M, Auburn, and Ohio State—a major statement for Chesney's program.

Outhouse, a 6'0", 180-pound cornerback from Fort Worth, Texas, is rated the No. 22 cornerback in the class and the No. 24 player in Texas. His length and athleticism add to a defensive backfield that's quickly becoming a strength for the Bruins.

This recruiting surge comes alongside UCLA's No. 33-ranked transfer portal class, which added 41 players to build much-needed depth. But the real fireworks are happening on the high school trail. With three four-star commits in the last 24 hours alone, Chesney is proving that his reputation as a program-builder is no fluke.

Of course, these commitments will need to translate to wins on the field. But for a program that was struggling to attract top talent just a year ago, this is the ideal start. The Bob Chesney effect is real, and UCLA football is suddenly a destination for elite recruits again.
