The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of signings on Tuesday afternoon. Running back Sincere McCormick and safety Patrick McMorris agreed to one-year deals. McCormick spent time on the 49ers’ practice squad last season.
McMorris is a new name, unless you watch college football in the Bay Area. He was selected by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of California.
He played 106 snaps as a rookie, mostly on special teams. McMorris had seven snaps at free safety and one as a nickel. He did not play a regular-season snap in the NFL last year. McMorris played 112 preseason snaps, with 58 of those coming at free safety.
McMorris did not attend the 49ers’ recent local pro day. He ran a 4.29 20-yard shuttle at Cal’s pro day in March 2024. That time would’ve been the second-fastest for a defensive back in that draft. His agency announced the signing on Twitter on Monday:

McMorris joins a safety room that many fans and draft analysts would have upgraded during the NFL Draft. That was not the case, but general manager John Lynch hinted at the 49ers adding another body after the draft.
We’ll see if McMorris is the only safety the team adds before camp.
