The Texas Longhorns women's basketball program will see a key piece of its recent success move on, as forward Aaliyah Moore has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal. The news, first reported by On3 and confirmed by Moore on Instagram, marks the end of a tenure defined by both promise and persistent injury challenges.

Moore arrived in Austin as a cornerstone of Coach Vic Schaefer's first recruiting class, a highly-touted five-star prospect ranked No. 6 nationally in 2021. The 6-foot-1 forward made an immediate impact, showcasing her talent with 39 points across the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament during her freshman year. Over 89 games in burnt orange, she averaged 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds, providing a versatile presence in the frontcourt.

However, her career was repeatedly interrupted by knee issues. A torn ACL in her left knee cost her most of the 2022-23 season, and tendonitis in her right knee shortened her 2024-25 campaign. Last offseason, Coach Schaefer announced that another surgery would sideline Moore for the entirety of the 2025-26 season, a year in which she remained enrolled but was largely absent from team activities.

While Schaefer initially expressed hope for her return in 2026-27, Moore's decision to enter the portal signals a new beginning. Her departure is part of a significant roster transition for Texas, joining other notable exits like Justice Carlton and Aaliyah Crump. For Moore, the focus now shifts to recovery and finding a new program where she can finally showcase her full potential on a consistent basis.
