The NCAA transfer portal has claimed its first Longhorn. Texas forward Nic Codie has entered the portal, marking the end of a two-season tenure in Austin that never quite lived up to its promising start.

Codie, a 6’8”, 220-pound forward with two seasons of eligibility remaining, arrived on the Forty Acres as a highly-touted recruit. A consensus four-star prospect out of Dallas, he was ranked as the top player in Texas and a top-100 national talent, choosing Texas over a host of major programs including Auburn, Kansas, and Miami.

Unfortunately, his development was hampered from the outset by a knee injury that cut short his senior high school season. The rehab process delayed his collegiate debut, causing him to miss the first four games of the 2024-25 season. While he showed flashes of his potential—most notably a 20-point outburst against UAPB—he struggled to find a consistent role, especially in conference play.

Despite showing dedication by being the first player to recommit to Texas under new head coach Sean Miller and adding significant muscle in the offseason, Codie’s production remained limited. This past season, he reached double-digit scoring only twice and was unable to secure a firm spot in the rotation, even earning a surprise start in the season opener.

For his Texas career, Codie averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this past season. His departure opens up a scholarship for Coach Miller as he continues to build his roster, while Codie will look for a fresh start where he can finally unlock the potential that made him such a coveted recruit.
