Mother Nature is forcing a change of plans for Texas A&M baseball this weekend. With inclement weather looming in Oxford, Mississippi, the No. 7 Aggies (36-10, 15-8 SEC) and No. 20 Ole Miss have adjusted their schedule: what was originally a three-game series will now feature a doubleheader on Saturday, following Friday night's opener.
Friday's Game 1 is still set for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch, but the real action heats up Saturday. Game 2 will start at 2:00 p.m., and Game 3 will begin exactly one hour after the conclusion of Game 2—giving both teams a brief window to refuel and rehydrate before the final showdown.
On the mound, Head Coach Mike Earley is shaking things up. For the first time this season, junior left-hander Shane Sdao will get the Friday night start, replacing Clemson transfer Ethan Darden, who has been a reliable middle-relief option alongside Gavin Lyons through 46 games. The move comes after Sdao's recent struggles, including allowing six earned runs against Auburn last weekend. It's a calculated risk, but one Earley feels is necessary with sophomore Aiden Sims emerging as the team's ace and junior Weston Moss coming off his best outing of the season—six strikeouts, just one hit, and one run allowed.
Saturday's doubleheader will see Sims take the ball for Game 2, while Earley has the flexibility to choose between Sdao or Moss for Game 3. Closer Clayton Freshcorn and Lyons will also be available for either game, giving the Aggies plenty of depth in the bullpen for a long day of baseball.
For fans, this doubleheader means double the drama. Whether you're cheering from the stands or watching from home, expect a high-energy, high-stakes afternoon as these two SEC powerhouses battle it out in a condensed, weather-forced marathon. Stay tuned—this weekend just got a lot more interesting.
