Texas A&M baseball is shaking things up on the mound as head coach Michael Earley makes his first major rotation change heading into a pivotal road series against Ole Miss this weekend.
For the first time in Earley's tenure, the Aggies will roll out a new starting pitcher lineup, with left-hander Shane Sdao moving to a bullpen role after a tough stretch. Sdao has struggled recently, most notably allowing six earned runs on four hits in just one inning during Texas A&M's 18-5 loss to Auburn in the series opener. The redshirt junior from Montgomery, Texas, currently holds a 6.55 ERA with 67 strikeouts on the season, but has allowed 75 hits and walked 15 batters. In SEC play, his numbers have been particularly challenging—he ranks last in the conference with a 9.74 ERA and a 2.16 WHIP.
"The move is about giving Shane a chance to reset and find his confidence," Earley explained. "We believe in his stuff, and sometimes a new role can help a pitcher regain his rhythm."
Stepping into the Friday starter role is Ethan Darden, who will look to set the tone against the Rebels. The Rock Hill, South Carolina native has been impressive this season with a 2.88 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Saturday's start goes to Aiden Sims, who boasts a stellar 3.60 ERA and an 8-1 record. As for Sunday's starter, Weston Moss—the Aggies' go-to for series finales throughout the season—is expected to get the nod.
This weekend's series is a crucial one for Texas A&M as they look to build momentum down the stretch. With a fresh rotation and a new energy on the mound, the Aggies are hoping to make a statement in Oxford. Whether you're cheering from the stands or watching from home, get ready for a weekend of high-stakes SEC baseball.
