Texas A&M football is making serious waves on the recruiting trail, and the buzz around the program just got a whole lot louder. After already securing a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Kennedy Brown last weekend, the Aggies have now turned their attention to another massive target: 2027 five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews.
According to AggieYell insider Jaxson Callaway, Texas A&M offensive line coach Adam Cushing and head coach Mike Elko recently completed what is being described as an "extremely positive" in-home visit with Matthews and his family. The meeting comes on the heels of Matthews attending the Aggies' Maroon & White Game on April 18, and the momentum is clearly building in College Station.
It's easy to see why the Aggies are on a roll. Four of Texas A&M's 2025 starting offensive linemen were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft—a powerful recruiting pitch that resonates with elite blockers like Matthews. The message is clear: come to Texas A&M, and you'll be NFL-ready.
But the Aggies aren't alone in this race. Miami's offensive line coach Alex Mirabal also made a trip to Matthews' home on Thursday night, keeping the Hurricanes firmly in the mix. Meanwhile, Georgia made a late push with their own in-home visit on Tuesday, but according to Callaway, the Bulldogs are "not viewed as a serious contender" to land Matthews' commitment in the near term.
For Texas A&M, the timing couldn't be better. The staff is hoping to lock down Matthews in the coming days or by next week, which would give the Aggies even more momentum heading into a big recruiting weekend. With a long list of 2027 priority prospects expected to visit, securing Matthews could be the spark that ignites an entire class.
Stay tuned—this recruitment is heating up, and Texas A&M looks like the team to beat.
