There aren’t many minor league players swinging a hotter bat than former Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery. His last week has been nothing short of elite, and if this pace holds, a promotion may be closer than anyone expected.
Montgomery opened the spring in Chicago White Sox big‑league camp, where he looked like he belonged from the jump. Across his time in Arizona, he slashed .348/.348/.652 with a home run and two triples, an impressive showing that reinforced his status as one of the organization’s most exciting young talents. After camp, the White Sox reassigned him to the Double‑A Birmingham Barons, but instead of cooling off, he’s only gotten better.
Through his first 15 games, Montgomery is hitting .358 with 19 hits, 11 extra‑base hits, and four home runs, powering one of the hottest starts in the Southern League. But it’s his recent surge that has launched him into legitimate No. 1 prospect conversations.
Over the last week, Montgomery put up video‑game numbers: a .600/.640/1.200 slash line, a 1.840 OPS, a home run, and seven RBI. That dominant stretch earned him SOU Player of the Week honors and cemented his status as one of the most dangerous hitters in the minors right now.
Triple‑A is staring him in the face, and if he strings together a few more weeks like this, Montgomery could be knocking on the door of the majors sooner rather than later.
