Is it ever too early to start thinking about the NFL Draft? ESPN's Jordan Reid doesn't think so, and he's already looking ahead to 2027 with a way-too-early mock draft that has the Houston Texans making a splash.

While most early mock drafts see half their names drop out due to college returns or inconsistent play, Reid's projection for the Texans is rooted in a clear need: finding a long-term solution at running back. With veteran David Montgomery's contract winding down, Houston is eyeing the future.

Enter Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy, a prospect Reid believes could be a first-round lock based on his electric 2024 season in Oxford. At pick No. 22, Reid has the Texans snagging the SEC standout.

"Lacy is one of my favorite players to watch on tape in the 2027 class, regardless of position," Reid writes. "He's a long-striding, slashing runner whose sudden movements give him the A-level short-area quickness to create explosive plays. His 24 rushing touchdowns last season were the third most in SEC history. His outstanding vision and awareness keeps runs on track and create positive yardage. He's also a competitive pass protector."

For a Texans team that has struggled to establish a consistent ground game and take pressure off the passing attack, Lacy could be exactly what the doctor ordered. With his blend of power, agility, and production, this is a name to watch for Houston fans—even if the draft is still two years away.
