Tennessee softball faces Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament on May 6. The Lady Vols lost the regular-season series 2-1 to the Rebels.

The Tennessee Lady Vols are set to open SEC Tournament play against Ole Miss, and this matchup carries some extra weight. After all, the Rebels handed Tennessee one of its only two series losses during conference play this season.

As the No. 5 seed, Tennessee (42-9) will face the No. 13 seed Rebels (33-23) in the second round on May 6 at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET on the SEC Network, and fans will be eager to see if the Lady Vols can flip the script.

Tennessee finished SEC play at 16-8, landing in a three-way tie for fourth place alongside Texas and Texas A&M. That's a strong showing, but the Lady Vols know they'll need to bring their A-game against a hungry Ole Miss squad. The Rebels stumbled to a 6-18 conference record, finishing 13th in the league, but they closed the regular season on a high note by winning back-to-back series against Auburn and Mississippi State.

Here's where it gets interesting: when these two teams met back in March at Tennessee's home field, the Rebels stunned the Lady Vols by taking the first two games, both by identical 2-1 scores. Tennessee managed to avoid a sweep by winning Game 3, 4-3, but that series loss still stings. Now, with a neutral-site setting in Lexington, the Lady Vols have a chance to prove that March was a fluke and that they're ready to make a deep tournament run.
