Tennessee softball has a rubber match to conclude its top-10 matchup with Alabama.
The No. 8 Lady Vols (39-8, 13-7 SEC) evened the series with a 2-0 win over the No. 3 Tide (44-5, 16-4) on April 26. It was the first time this season that Alabama was shut out. Sage Mardjetko tossed a one-hitter with six strikeouts in her fifth shutout of the season.
Tennessee will face Alabama in Game 3 at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on April 27 (7 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
Gabby Leach and Emma Clarke hit solo home runs to back up Mardjetko's excellent outing, scoring the first runs for the Lady Vols in the series after a 12-0 loss in Game 1. Tennessee had two hits in the five-inning loss, but had four in the Game 2 win.
"Sage is a competitor. She's going to give you everything she has," Tennessee coach Karen Weekly said. "She's going to compete freely, she's going to stay one pitch at a time, and she's got the stuff to beat anybody. So, I had complete trust in Sage all day long, and the most important number today is a zero on the scoreboard."
