The Tennessee Volunteers were locked in a tight SEC battle with the Oklahoma Sooners when Mother Nature decided to step in. With the Vols holding a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning, lightning in the area forced a stoppage at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
The delay officially began at 8:48 p.m. CT, and according to the Oklahoma radio broadcast, both teams were told play would resume no earlier than 10 p.m. That leaves plenty of time for fans to grab a snack, stretch their legs, and hope the storm passes quickly.
Tennessee entered the game with a 36-18 overall record and a 14-14 mark in SEC play, fighting to solidify their postseason resume. Oklahoma, meanwhile, came in at 31-10 overall and 13-15 in conference action, looking to protect their home turf and build momentum down the stretch.
The Vols have been swinging hot bats lately, and the early lead in this one showed their determination to keep the pressure on. With the game paused in the late innings, every pitch from here on out will carry extra weight when play resumes.
Stay tuned for updates as we wait for the skies to clear and the action to heat back up.
