Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White has voiced strong support for Lady Vols head coach Kim Caldwell, praising her decisive leadership during a turbulent offseason. In his first public comments since the season concluded, White expressed optimism about the program's future under Caldwell's direction.

"I'm proud of Kim as a leader," White stated. "She evaluated the necessary changes and made them decisively. After a challenging second season, her ability to manage this transition and rebuild aggressively has us in a great place moving forward."

The vote of confidence comes after a period of significant roster and staff turnover. The program saw all eight potential starters enter the transfer portal, while the coaching staff underwent changes with the departure of assistants Gabe Lazo and Roman Tubner. The Lady Vols also released five-star recruit Oliviyah Edwards from her National Letter of Intent.

This roster overhaul follows the most difficult season in the storied program's history. Tennessee finished 16-14 overall, including a 2-11 stretch to close the regular season that featured lopsided losses to powerhouses UConn and South Carolina. The team's season ended with a second-round exit in the SEC Tournament and a first-round loss in the NCAA Tournament.

White acknowledged the scale of the changes was a direct response to the team's performance, which fell far below the program's championship standards. "That's not our expectation as a program, and it's not Kim's expectation as a coach," he said, framing the offseason moves as a necessary reset.

As the Lady Vols rebuild, all eyes will be on Coach Caldwell's new-look roster and her vision to restore one of women's college basketball's most iconic brands to its former glory.
