Tennessee women's golf is celebrating a major milestone, as standout freshman Madison Messimer has been named the 2026 SEC Freshman of the Year. The announcement came Friday when the league revealed its postseason awards, marking a bright future for the Lady Vols program.

Messimer didn't just take home the top freshman honor—she also earned a spot on the First-Team All-SEC roster. Joining her in the spotlight was teammate Kyra Van Kan, who secured Second-Team All-SEC recognition. Together, they represent the 35th and 36th Tennessee women's golfers to earn All-SEC honors in program history, bringing the Lady Vols' total to an impressive 63 all-conference selections.

This is a historic moment for Tennessee. Messimer becomes just the fourth Lady Vol to win SEC Freshman of the Year, and the first since Violeta Retamoza claimed the award back in 2003. Notably, every previous Tennessee winner of this honor went on to achieve All-America status during their careers—a promising sign for Messimer's future.
