Marina Mabrey scored 26 points and made six 3-pointers, Brittney Sykes had 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and Toronto beat the Seattle Storm 86-73 on Tuesday night for the Tempo’s first victory in franchise history. Toronto went on an 18-6 run in the third quarter to take a 65-56 lead, with Mabrey and Maria Conde combining for 14 points in the period.

In a historic night for women's basketball, the Toronto Tempo captured their first-ever franchise victory with a commanding 86-73 win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday. The expansion team's breakthrough performance was fueled by a dazzling display from Marina Mabrey, who poured in 26 points and drilled six 3-pointers to electrify the home crowd.

Brittney Sykes was everywhere on the court, stuffing the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. But it was the third quarter that truly turned the tide. Toronto unleashed an 18-6 run to seize a 65-56 lead, with Mabrey and Maria Conde combining for 14 points in the period. The momentum carried into the fourth, where Mabrey caught fire, scoring eight points in the first six minutes. Her back-to-back 3-pointers—the latter launched from near the logo—pushed the lead to 81-71 and effectively sealed the game.

Seattle's offense went cold when it mattered most, managing just one field goal in the final six minutes. Conde provided a spark off the bench with 16 points, while rookie Kiki Rice, the Tempo's first-round draft pick, chipped in 12 points. The victory improved Toronto to 1-1 on the season.

Elsewhere around the league, the Las Vegas Aces put on a clinic against the Connecticut Sun. Chennedy Carter was unstoppable, scoring 27 points on an efficient 13-of-16 shooting, while A'ja Wilson recorded her 121st career double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds—14 of those points coming in a dominant third quarter. Las Vegas outscored Connecticut 30-16 in the frame, with Carter's coast-to-coast layup at the buzzer making it 78-53. The Aces' bench contributed a staggering 48 points in the 98-73 rout.

In San Francisco, the Chicago Sky held off the Golden State Valkyries 72-64. Rickea Jackson delivered the dagger with a clutch 3-pointer with 1:41 left, finishing with 18 points. Skylar Diggins-Smith added 15 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Despite a 12-point early lead, Golden State struggled offensively, shooting just 29.3% from the field. Gabby Williams led the Valkyries with 18 points and five rebounds in the losing effort.

For the Tempo, this victory is more than just a win—it's a statement. With a dynamic backcourt and a rookie class ready to make waves, Toronto is proving that expansion doesn't mean rebuilding. Fans are already buzzing about what's next, and if Tuesday night was any indication, the Tempo are here to compete.
