Tuesday's matchup at Target Field promised a marquee pitching duel between Detroit's ace Tarik Skubal and Minnesota's emerging star Taj Bradley. For four innings, the game delivered on that promise, with both starters trading zeroes. However, the script flipped dramatically in the fifth, as the Twins' offense broke through in a decisive rally.

The Minnesota lineup finally solved Skubal in that fateful fifth inning. After escaping jams in the second, third, and fourth, Skubal was chased with two outs following a four-run outburst. The ace left-hander's final line—4.2 innings, eight hits, four runs, and seven strikeouts—marked his shortest non-injury start since August of 2025. It was a rare off-night for the Tigers' stalwart.

On the other side, Taj Bradley was brilliant, outdueling his more established counterpart. The 25-year-old, acquired from Tampa Bay at last season's trade deadline, showcased why he's become an immediate force in the Twins' rotation. Bradley stifled Detroit's bats over 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on six hits while racking up ten strikeouts. Through three starts this season, his ERA sits at a microscopic 0.54.

Detroit's offense struggled to capitalize on its chances, a recurring theme in this early stretch. Their best opportunity came in the second inning when they loaded the bases with two outs, but they couldn't push a run across. The Tigers finished the night 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position, leaving key runs on the field in what became a 4-2 loss.

The defeat drops the Tigers to 4-7, with all seven losses coming in their last nine games. They'll look to salvage the series on Wednesday night behind left-hander Framber Valdez, hoping to find the timely hitting and shutdown pitching that eluded them in this tough battle against a division rival.
