Tai Tuivasa is taking full responsibility after suffering his seventh straight UFC loss—a heartbreaking defeat that left him, and his fans, deeply disappointed.
The heavyweight fan favorite was expected to bounce back at UFC Perth, especially against short-notice opponent Louie Sutherland. But from the opening bell, things went sideways. Sutherland repeatedly took Tuivasa down, controlling the fight on the ground for the majority of the 15-minute bout. Even when Tuivasa managed to stay on his feet, he couldn't generate the explosive offense fans have come to expect from "Bam Bam."
After the unanimous decision loss, Tuivasa posted a raw, emotional message on Instagram: "Sorry, I tried. I felt good. I put in the work. Didn't get the result. I feel like a shit c*nt. Let my fans down again. Back to the drawing board for me. C*nt of a sport. But I will never give up. I'm from western Sydney, you gotta put me out for me to give up."
This latest setback comes after Tuivasa already contemplated retirement following his fifth straight loss. After more than a year off, he returned in February only to drop a decision to Tallison Teixeira. Determined to turn things around, he quickly booked this fight for the Perth card—but history repeated itself.
To add insult to injury, Tuivasa had a point deducted late in the fight for an illegal knee, while Sutherland swept the scorecards for his first UFC victory.
While Tuivasa's fighting spirit remains unbroken, the question now is whether the UFC will give him another chance. Most fighters don't survive seven consecutive losses, but Tuivasa has always been a fan favorite—known for his shoey celebrations and never-say-die attitude. Whether he fights again in the Octagon or elsewhere, one thing is certain: this Western Sydney warrior isn't ready to hang up his gloves just yet.
