Polish teenager Michal Szubarczyk becomes the youngest player to win a World Championship match as he beats former women's world champion Onyee Ng in qualifying.

History was made in Sheffield on Monday as 15-year-old Polish sensation Michal Szubarczyk became the youngest player ever to win a match at the Snooker World Championship. The teenage prodigy secured a landmark 10-7 victory over former women's world champion Onyee Ng in the first qualifying round.

At just 15 years, two months, and 25 days old, Szubarczyk has shattered the previous record set by Wales's Liam Davies (15 years, 277 days) in 2022. This milestone adds another chapter to his remarkable young career, which began when he became the sport's youngest-ever professional at age 14 in June 2025.

With this win, the young star now has his sights set on an even bigger prize: breaking Luca Brecel's record as the youngest player to compete at the iconic Crucible Theatre. Brecel was 17 years and 45 days old when he qualified for the main draw in 2012.

Szubarczyk's composure under pressure was on full display, and his ambition is clear. "I feel very proud and excited about the next matches. Maybe this year or next year I can become the youngest Crucible player," he told the World Snooker Tour. "For me, getting to the Crucible is the first goal of many others in professional snooker. I'm enjoying the pressure and expectation."

His rapid rise is no fluke. He announced himself on the international stage in April 2025 by reaching the final of the open-age European Championship, before capping off the year by winning the World Amateur Championship. Now, with his historic first qualifying win secured, he prepares for his next challenge in the second round against Sanderson Lam, proving that a new generation of snooker talent is ready for the spotlight.
