Polish teenager Michal Szubarczyk becomes the youngest player to win a World Championship match as he beats former women's world champion Onyee Ng in qualifying.

History was made at the World Snooker Championship qualifiers in Sheffield this week, as 15-year-old Polish sensation Michal Szubarczyk became the youngest player ever to win a match at the prestigious tournament. The teenage prodigy secured a landmark 10-7 victory over former women's world champion Onyee Ng, showcasing a composure that belies his years.

At just 15 years, two months, and 25 days old, Szubarczyk has broken the record previously held by Wales's Liam Davies, who was 15 years and 277 days old when he won in 2022. This victory is the latest milestone for a player who turned professional at 14 and is rapidly rewriting the sport's record books.

Already a former World Under-21 and two-time European Under-18 champion, Szubarczyk now has his sights set on an even bigger prize: becoming the youngest player to compete at the iconic Crucible Theatre. The current record is held by Luca Brecel, who was 17 years and 45 days old when he qualified in 2012.

"I feel very proud and excited about the next matches. Maybe this year or next year I can become the youngest Crucible player," Szubarczyk said after his record-breaking win. "For me, getting to the Crucible is the first goal of many others in professional snooker. I'm enjoying the pressure and expectation."

His rapid ascent has been remarkable. After reaching the final of the open-age European Championship in April 2025, he capped off the year by winning the World Amateur Championship. Now, with his historic first qualifying win under his belt, he prepares to face Sanderson Lam in the next round. The snooker world is watching closely, witnessing the rise of a potential new superstar who plays with the fearless ambition of youth.
