Syracuse men's basketball is gearing up for an ambitious non-conference schedule in the 2026-27 season, with plans to face five Power Five opponents—a move that signals the Orange's commitment to marquee matchups and high-level competition. According to an interview with Syracuse Associate AD Pete Corasiniti conducted by syracuse.com's Donna Ditota, the team is finalizing details for two of those games, with the rest already taking shape.
So far, the confirmed highlight is a clash with Indiana in Indianapolis and a showdown against Providence in Boston. A third game is set as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, guaranteeing a formidable foe from the Southeastern Conference. The fourth Power Five opponent is expected to take center stage at Madison Square Garden, with whispers pointing to a potential matchup against St. John's—though Corasiniti hasn't officially confirmed the rumor.
"People are like, 'Why are you playing Indiana in Indiana?'" Corasiniti told Ditota. "Well, obviously, there's a good financial package behind it." That pragmatic approach underscores Syracuse's strategy to balance competitive fire with financial incentives, especially as the Orange fill gaps left by their departure from the Players Era Tournament in Las Vegas. In the 2025-26 season, Syracuse faced four Power Five non-conference opponents, including Houston, Iowa State, and Kansas in the PET, plus Tennessee at home for the ACC/SEC Challenge.
Rounding out the rest of the non-conference slate, CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reports that Syracuse will host UAlbany at the Carrier Dome, with familiar foes Colgate and Cornell likely returning to the Orange's home court. As the schedule continues to take shape, fans can expect more updates on what promises to be a thrilling early-season test for Syracuse basketball.
