Syracuse basketball is bringing another familiar face back to the Carrier Dome sidelines. Head coach Gerry McNamara is fortifying his new staff with Orange alumni, and the latest addition is a fan favorite from the hardwood: former center Arinze Onuaku.

Onuaku, who patrolled the paint for Syracuse from 2005-2010, is making the move alongside McNamara from Siena College. A formidable presence during his playing days, Onuaku started 103 games, scored over 1,000 points, and hauled in more than 800 rebounds, embodying the tough, physical style synonymous with Syracuse big men.

His journey back to campus follows a decade of professional basketball, including NBA experience, and a successful transition into coaching. Onuaku has built a strong reputation in the talent-rich DMV area (D.C., Maryland, Virginia), coaching with the G League's Capital City Go-Go and at Gonzaga College High School. This regional expertise is a major asset for Syracuse recruiting, continuing a pipeline that has historically fueled the Orange roster.

With Onuaku and director of operations Ben Lee now officially on board, the focus shifts to finalizing the rest of McNamara's bench. The anticipated hiring of Penn State assistant Jamal Brunt and a potential move for Ryan Blackwell from Siena are key developments to watch, along with the structuring of the support staff.

This homecoming trend signals a clear intent from Coach McNamara to blend program tradition with a fresh vision, building a staff that understands what it means to wear Orange from personal experience. For Syracuse fans, it's an exciting time to see the program's past help shape its future.
