Sussex ease to a seven-wicket win to complete an early-season double over Leicestershire in the County Championship at Hove.

Sussex stormed to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Leicestershire at Hove, completing an early-season double in the County Championship despite interruptions from rain and a disciplinary penalty.

Chasing a modest target of 131, Sussex faced two lengthy rain delays but responded with aggressive batting, racing to their goal at over eight runs per over in just 15.3 overs. The win was set up by a disciplined bowling performance that saw Leicestershire dismissed for 232 in their second innings, with Sussex claiming the last six wickets for just 73 runs.

The day began with a bang as Ollie Robinson struck in the first over, clean bowling Jonny Tattersall with a swinging delivery that knocked back off stump. Robinson continued to impress, also playing a key role in a chaotic run-out that saw Steve Eskinazi dismissed after a stubborn two-hour vigil for 26. Eskinazi's straight drive deflected off Robinson's boot, and when he attempted a run, partner Ben Cox hesitated, leaving both batters at the same end as Fynn Hudson-Prentice's throw found the target.

Between rain breaks, Tom Clark and Dan Ibrahim took control with fearless stroke play. Clark pulled Tom Green for six, while Ibrahim followed suit in the same over. Clark then smashed Ian Holland for a six and two boundaries in one over, forcing the Leicestershire skipper to spread his fielders desperately. The pair added 76 at a blistering 8.4 runs per over before Clark fell for 39, bowled behind his legs by Green, and Ibrahim was bowled through the gate by Ajaz Patel for 48.

With blue skies overhead, James Coles guided Sussex home with an unbeaten 32, securing their third victory of the season. The win was slightly marred by a five-run penalty added to Leicestershire's total after Daniel Hughes was caught behind off the first ball, but it did little to slow Sussex's charge.

The victory at the County Ground keeps Sussex in strong form early in the season, showcasing both bowling depth and batting firepower that will worry opponents in the weeks ahead.
