The Ford Mustang roared to life in New Zealand this weekend, with Brodie Kostecki and Matt Payne splitting the victories on a dramatic Saturday at Ruapuna Park near Christchurch. The second day of Supercars action delivered thrilling battles and a stunning comeback, showcasing the intense competition that defines the championship.

Brodie Kostecki kicked off the day by mastering the 37-lap sprint race, holding off a determined challenge from Grove Racing's Kai Allen to secure the win. The podium was a strong showing for Ford, with David Wood completing the top three ahead of the Triple Eight duo of Will Brown and Broc Feeney.

However, the script flipped completely in the day's second encounter. After a disastrous first race where he lost a wheel, Matt Payne of Grove Racing executed a flawless drive to dominate the field. He cleared out to win by a massive 11.6 seconds, claiming his first victory of the season in emphatic fashion and proving the raw speed of his Ford Mustang.

"What a turnaround," said a jubilant Payne. "Our car has been so fast all day... I finally got it done." His teammate's misfortune in race one was firmly forgotten as he stood atop the podium.

The battle for the remaining spots provided plenty of drama. Broc Feeney, starting sixth, expertly navigated the chaos to secure second place for Triple Eight Race Engineering, capitalizing when David Wood and Brodie Kostecki both went off at the same corner. "Matty is on another planet," Feeney conceded, acknowledging Payne's pace while being pleased with his team's recovery.

The fight for the final podium spot was a highlight, with James Golding putting on a stellar drive for Blanchard Racing Team. A strategic four-tyre pit stop gave him the advantage he needed to chase down David Wood, making a decisive pass with just three laps to go to snatch third. It was a hard-earned and welcome podium for the BRT squad, capping off a day where Ford machinery led the charge from start to finish.
