Oklahoma City’s defense of the NBA crown continues on Wednesday when it hosts Phoenix once more with a chance to go 2-0 up in the first round of the Playoffs. The Thunder sauntered to a 119-84 annihilation of the Suns in Game 1 on Sunday and will be heavy favorites to double that lead at the Paycom Center in midweek.
It will surprise few that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams were once again at the heart of the Thunder’s offensive highlights over the weekend. However, it was the franchise’s trademark defense that was arguably even more impressive as they cantered to an early series lead.
No. 8 seed Phoenix has still won two of the last four meetings between these teams, and it’s important to note the most recent of those was a 135-103 rout of its own barely a week ago. Likewise, it’s also essential to point out that the top-seeded Thunder rested several key names like ‘SGA’ and Williams for that same encounter.
Before that clash, the Suns had lost five in a row at the Paycom Center in a three-year drought that didn’t bode well for their playoff chances. And with the Thunder back to full strength, we may be seeing the rightful power balance in this head-to-head being restored in what could be another difficult night in Game 2.
